| Implemented several brilliant recommendations in the attempt to pass emissions here in Northern Virginia. The first test failed HC at low speed and failed CO% and NO at higher speed. I then ran a full tank of gas with “Guaranteed to Pass”, retarded the timing, and pulled the vacuum hose trick. The second test was better - much better NO results - and passing all but the low speed HC test. See the following: Limit / 1st Reading / 2nd Reading / Result 15 MPH HC: 92 / 160 / 105 / FAIL CO%: 0.37 / 0.48 / 0.29 / PASS NOX: 1200 / 379 / 178 / PASS 25 MPH HC: 100 / 89 / 84 / PASS CO%: 0.53 / 0.45 / 0.53 / PASS NOX: 1167 / 1667 / 675 / PASS Now, I got to tell you that I checked timing the between tests and the timing was reading 25 deg. BTDC. Weird. Not pinging! I turned the exhaust cam sensor all the way clockwise and could only get to 15 deg. BTDC; and that’s where I left it for the second test. Could it be that the timing belt is off. Maybe I’m checking the timing wrong with the induction clip on the three wires running to the coil pack. Would running the next test with more alcohol mixed with the gas reduce the HCs? What to do? Any thoughts?
